A Musical Blast from the Past: “You’ll Be Dancin’ In The Streets!”

Departure Date: Monday, April 30, 2018   Return Date: Thursday, May 3, 2018
Tour Length:
Four Days/Three Nights

Come along and take a musical walk down memory lane. Remember your first love; your first prom; your first kiss? Did you wear a studded leather jacket, tight jeans, a “DA” hairdo and drive a chick-magnet hot rod? Where were you when Ed Sullivan introduced “The Fab Four?” Were you the “hip” style in bellbottoms and tie-dyed shirts or dress in the slender “mod” look of London?

This groovy get-away takes place at the all inclusive, full service, Villa Roma Resort in the Catskills. Their entertainers and culinary staff will take you on a trip through music, food and fashion from the late 50’s to the 60’s-----Greasers and hippies welcome!

Day One:

Arrive mid afternoon at the Villa Roma Resort, the leading year-round full-service resort hotel in the Catskills. The property features 250 hotel rooms and a wide variety of amenities, including an 18- hole PGA Championship Golf Course, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, indoor fitness center and bowling alley and indoor and outdoor pools. The staff will cater to your every need and fill your day with activities, great food and fun!

table-tennis-408388_640After you have checked in, it’s time to register for the Sixty’s Olympics. Make up a team or be a solo competitor for shuffleboard, ping pong, bocce ball, bowling or swimming.

Your Blast from the Past starts with Greaser Night. Bring out your inner “Fonzie,” grab your chick and head to the flicks! Gather at the indoor “Drive-in Movie” theater for the showing of “Grease” complete with popcorn and beverage service—“perfectamundo!”

Following the movie, it’s time for Happy Hour. Nosh on retro hors d’oeuvres and get in the groove with a Rum and Coke, Tom Collins or a Sloe Gin Fizz.

Following an included dinner, gather for “A Greaser Night at American Bandstand” with a local DJ entertainer spinning your favorite oldies. Remember the Bop, the Jitterbug and the immortalized Hand Jive? If you don’t, you will before the evening comes to an end.

Day Two:

A hearty breakfast will prepare you for a full day of athletic contests, craft classes and a chance to test your vocal chords.

Athletes in all disciplines will begin their Olympic trials throughout the day.

Step back into the “flower child era” and join in the fun of making a tie-dyed tee shirt, a love bead necklace and a flower headband. These will come in handy later!

If you would rather use your vocal chords than your hamstrings, here’s your chance. Auditions for the talent show begin this afternoon.

shuffleboard-86688_640If you’re not a “groupie”, Villa Roma offers plenty of ways to do your own thing. Options include playing golf, horse back riding (additional costs) or simply spectating----it’s free!.

Late afternoon it’s time for another Happy Hour Happenin’. Pig out on Velveeta, Spam and everyone’s favorite, pigs-in-a-blanket! Cocktails of the day feature Martinis, White Russians, Grasshoppers and Zombies. Happy Hour is accompanied by a 60’s Fashion Show. Here’s your chance to strut your tie-dyed tee shirt and love beads!

You will be entertained by the Talent Show contestants following dinner. This version of the Original Amateur Hour is certain to bring back a few memories and to crack a few smiles.

Gather around the fire pit--- it’s kumbaya time! Sing along to the sounds of the Kingston Trio, Joan Baez and The New Christy Minstrels while roasting marshmallows to top your s’mores.

Day Three:

Today’s schedule takes you on a “trip” away from the resort and into the land of Woodstock. Your first stop is at The Museum at Bethel Woods. Witness vibrant, interactive exhibits, programs and events that celebrate the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair and the entire decade that it came to represent: "Woodstock and The Sixties."

The museum is a leading authority on the history of the 1960’s and its transformative impact on the world. The museum embodies the key ideals of the era: peace, respect, cooperation, creativity, engagement and a connection to the planet we live in. The main exhibit explores the unique experience of the Woodstock festival and its significance as a culminating event of a decade of sweeping cultural transformation.

memory-13788_640After your time at the museum, visit the original Woodstock concert site.

Arrive for lunch at a local, iconic restaurant, The Dancing Cat Saloon. Savor the flavors of locally sourced ingredients prepared to reflect the season’s bounty. After lunch, visit the adjacent, Stray Cat Gallery to witness a display of amazing works by local artists.

End your outing at the Catskill Distilling Company. View the custom-made copper stills, actually a work of art that serves as a backdrop to the tasting room. Take a seat at the elegant, art deco bar that comes from the 1939 World’s Fair in Flushing, Queens. Learn about the distillation process and taste the spirits!

Return to the resort late afternoon. There will be time to relax, refresh and slip into your “60’s best” before the evening’s festivities.

Tonight’s Cocktail Party features an array of retro hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.

Following a Farewell Dinner, it’s time to wiggle your “Watusi”, “Twist” your torso, fire up your “Frug” or “Stroll” your stuff as you dance the night away to live entertainment.

Day Four:

Breakfast includes an Olympic Metal Presentation and a chance to congratulate all the athletes and their accomplishments. Before you depart the resort, gather for a group photo to remember all of your groovy new friends.

john-lennon-487033_640And, as if history repeats itself, on the way home sing a chorus or two of “Give Peace a Chance.”. . . . . . . “everybody’s talking’ ‘bout. . . . . . “
