Explore Kona and Oahu: Island Fun and Educational Immersion Program

Day One:  

Board your morning flights to paradise. Arrive at Kona International Airport early dog-742140_640evening. You will be officially welcomed with a traditional Flower Lei. Board your motor coach and travel to your hotel.

Gather for a pizza party and meet your local tour director. The tour director will provide you with informative briefing to review hotel rules, local area shop, attractions and safety.

Day Two:                        

Rise and shine! It's Hawaiian time to enjoy breakfast in paradise.

This morning you will explore historic Kona Town. You may stroll Ali’i Drive’s historical sites, such as Ahu'ena Heiau-which was once King Kamehameha’s place of worship, Hulihe'e Palace-used by royalty as a vacation home but now a museum with many ancient Hawaiian artifacts and Mokuaikaua Church, the site of the first Christian church built in Hawaii.

Depart for Keauhou Bay where you will board a Snorkel Cruise to historic Kealakekua Bay, where Captain Cook first discovered Hawaii in 1777. Explore lava tubes; see sea turtles, spinner dolphins and maybe even a humpback whale or two. On board you have use of snorkel equipment, water toys, floating trampoline water slide and dive platform.

Most everyone has probably seen the movie, “Forest Gump.” Tonight you are going to “run with Forest” when you have dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.

After dinner you will be treated to a hands-on Astronomy Workshop. View stars,
planets and constellations through an 18 inch-telescope with running commentary throughout the presentation.

Day Three:

This morning, depart with an interpretive guide to study the formation of the Hawaiian Archipelago by Madam Pele. the goddess of the Volcano.

Your first stop is at Punalu’u Black Sand Beach where you dine on a deluxe black-1625521_640continental breakfast. Learn how hot lava entered the ocean, exploded and later cooled to form basalt black sand that formed the beach. You will have time to explore the volcanic reef and see endangered Hawksbill and Green Sea Turtles basking in the sun.

Next you will enter Volcanoes National Park and head directly to the Thurston Lava Tube (Don’t forget your flashlight). The tube is located in the middle of a giant tropical hapu’u fern forest. Explore the 300 ft. cavern where lava flowed thousands of years ago. Use your flashlight to go even deeper, to experience and learn about the significance of this amazing underground cavern and how the ancient Hawaiians used the hapu'u fern.

It's now time to put on your hiking boots and visit Devastation Trail, which is a mile long hike in baron fields of cinder. Look for Pele’s Tears, Pele’s Hair and Pumice. Learn how each of these is formed by volcanic eruptions and discuss the two types of lava found in Hawaii.

Next, make a stop at the Volcanoes National Park Visitors Center to enjoy a deli volcano-1784658_640style lunch and view a large typographical map of the big island. Here you will discuss Tectonic Plates, the Ring Of Fire and how Hawaii was formed through a "Hot Spot" in the Pacific Plate.

Continue on exploration to visit Steam Vents, where hot moist air will warm your face. Tour the Jagger Museum where you may watch seismographs record earthquakes right under your feet and view the lava lake in Halemaumau Crater as it erupts.

Return to your hotel. There will be time to refresh before the evening's activitiy.

Gather for a local style dinner that includes: A Hawaiian Mixed Plate of Big Island Beef, Chicken, Two Scoops of Rice and Mac Salad.

Day Four:                     

After breakfast, pack your bags, tidy your rooms and depart for the Kona International Airport. Board a short flight to the big city of Honolulu.

Arrive in Honolulu and head off to Hawaii’s most famous landmark, Diamond Head. honolulu-skyline-734694_640Hike to the 763-foot summit of this extinct volcano and experience spectacular panoramic views of Oahu.

Check into your Honolulu hotel. Next, grab your swimsuit and get ready for some “Fun in the Hawaiian Sun.” The afternoon is yours to take an optional surf lesson or just sit back in the sand on the world's most famous beach, “Waikiki”.

Tonight is your chance to get Wiki Wacky in Waikiki. Separate into teams with chaperones (who must participate). You will be given a treasure map, clue sheet and a dinner allowance. Now it’s off to scavenger Waikiki gaining knowledge of its history and culture while enjoying dinner!

Day Five:

Board the coach after breakfast in the hotel. This morning you will visit Pearl Harbor pearl-harbour-535743_640and the USS Arizona Memorial. Learn about one of the world's most valuable history lessons: how men and women gave their lives on December 7, 1941 “The Day of Infamy”.

Enjoy a deli style lunch under large Chinese Banyan Trees with a spectacular view of one of our country’s famous war ships, the USS Battleship Missouri.

After lunch, split up into groups and embark on an Educational Highlights Tour . Walk on the surrender deck where General MacArthur signed the treaty to end WWII in Tokyo Bay.

As you return to the hotel, enjoy a narrated windshield tour of Honolulu. Sites that you will see along the way are: The National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl), Washington Place -the Governor’s Mansion, The State Capitol Building, Iolani Palace and the King Kamehameha Statue.

As Hawaii is a cultural melting pot, tonight you are going to learn how to dine Japanese style. Sit in tables of 10, as your Teppanyaki Chef prepares Japanese Steakhouse beef and chicken right before your very eyes. Cheer him on as flames flare up to the ceiling.

Day Six:            

After breakfast, depart for the Polynesian Cultural Center, where you will take an adventure into the cultures of Polynesia. Visit the seven villages that represent the islands, enjoy the shows at a leisurely pace during the day and stop for an IMAX movie of your choice.

Tonight, gather for an all-you-can-eat Polynesian feast at the Ali’i Luau Grounds. You will all be greeted with a flower lei and enjoy traditional Hawaiian song, chants and of course, the famous hula dance. The menu includes: Kalua Pork, Poi (the purple stuff), Lomi Lomi Salmon, Teriyaki Chicken, Fresh Local Fish, Salad and Fruit Bar and all you can drink Soda.

After dinner, step into the 3,000-seat open-air theatre for the best show in the islands, “HA” The Breath of Life. You will be amazed as performers enlighten you of their island dances and music.

Day Seven:                 

hawaii-1734845_640After breakfast in the hotel, enjoy the day your way. Take an optional surf lesson, shop at the International Marketplace or just have fun in the sun on Waikiki beach.

Say Aloha on your farewell evening, as you watch the sun drop off into the Pacific at your own Beach BBQ with Hawaiian flare. During dinner, the winner of the Wiki Wacky Scavenger Hunt will be announced and presented with a truly Authentic Hawaiian Trophy.

Day Eight:                    

After breakfast, pack your bags and check out of the hotel. Say “A hui hou” (goodbye in Hawaiian) to paradise as you transfer to the airport for your flights home.
