Have a Capital Adventure in Washington, DC

Welcome to Washington, DC, our Nation’s Capital. This stunning city is a great mix of adventure, fun and education. We are going to see the majestic Lincoln Memorial, explore the National Zoo, and be awed by the stunning Greek and Roman architecture.  This city is a must see for students of all ages and its an economical destination for class trips.

Tour Length: 5 Days/4 Nights

Day One:

Washington - DC SkylineThis morning travel to Washington, DC. Depending on your time of arrival, enjoy DC sightseeing or check into your hotel and relax for the evening.

Gather for an included welcome dinner at a locals’ favorite restaurant. 

Day Two: 

Start your day with breakfast in the hotel before heading out for a day of sight seeing.

Your first stop is the White House Visitor Center.  Get a glimpse into the President's iconic home, as you explore an interactive touch screen tour of the White House. View over 90 artifacts from the White House collection, shop for souvenirs at the White House Historical Association's retail store, and view the 14 minute film, "White House: Reflections From Within."

Embark on a guided tour of the National Portrait Gallery. The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery tells the history of America through individuals who have shaped its culture. Through the visual arts, performing arts and new media, the Portrait Gallery portrays poets and presidents, visionaries and villains and actors and activists whose lives tell the American story.

Lincoln MemorialNext, visit the Smithsonian Museum of American History. The Museum collects and preserves more than 3 million artifacts; all of which are true natural treasures. See the original Star-Spangled Banner, Abraham Lincoln’s top hat, Dizzy Gillespie’s angled trumpet, and Dorothy’s ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz.  The museum’s collections form a fascinating mosaic of American life and comprise the greatest single collection of American History. Enjoy lunch on your own at the café located in the museum.

PandaIn the afternoon head over to the National Zoo, best known for its adorable baby panda bears and the parents too! Say hello to the birds, bears and all the other majestic animals at the zoo.

Dinner this evening is served at a local restaurant.

After dinner, your tour manager will lead you on an Illuminated Monuments Tour. Witness the WWII Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day Three:

Mount VernonAfter breakfast in the hotel, board the motor coach and travel to George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon. One of the nation’s most beloved historic sites, Mount Vernon offers a glimpse into 18th-century plantation life through beautiful gardens and grounds, intriguing museum exhibits and immersive programs honoring George Washington’s life and legacy.

Begin your visit at the Ford Orientation Center and observe a video that provides a brief overview of the property. Then, embark on a guided tour of George Washington’s home and witness the vibrant wall colors, intricate architectural details and elegant furnishings of this impressive 21-room mansion.

After the tour, you may explore on your own. Enjoy lunch on your own at the food court, located on site, then visit the Donald W. Reynolds museum and Education Center and Washington’s tomb. Walk through the beautiful gardens that encompass over six acres. Explore more than a dozen outbuildings where many of the Mansion’s essential operations, such as laundry, spinning and meat curing were performed. Stop in at the working blacksmith shop and watch the demonstration.

Depart Mount Vernon late afternoon and travel into Old Town Alexandria. Follow your tour manager on a fascinating tour of this town that is deeply steeped in American history. Alexandria’s history reaches back more than thirteen thousand years. From the first Native Americans to settle here, to the bustling city it is today, the timeline of Alexandria’s history is filled with events that helped shape the United States of America into the country it is today.

Dinner is served at a local restaurant in Old Town Alexandria.

After dinner, meet your 18th Century, costumed guide and embark on a Ghost Tour of Old Alexandria.  As you walk through the streets of this historic town, your guide will entertain you with ghost stories, legends and folklore. Learn of unsolved mysteries and angry ghosts looking for revenge!

Return back to your hotel.   

Day Four:

White HouseAfter breakfast in the hotel, board the coach and travel to Capitol Hill. Your guide will lead you on a walk past the Supreme Court Building, The Library of Congress, The National Archives (home to the original Declaration of Independence) and the House of the Senate Office Buildings. There will be time for a photo op at the White House.

Next, witness the largest collection of international espionage artifacts ever placed on public display at The International Spy Museum. The Museum is the only public museum in the United States solely dedicated to espionage and the only one in the world to provide a global perspective on an all-but-invisible profession that has shaped history and continues to have a significant impact on world events. Test how good you are as a spy while you work your way around the museum incognito.

Enjoy lunch on your own at an eatery near the Spy Museum.

Arlington National CemeteryAfter lunch, travel to the Visitor’s Center of Arlington National Cemetery. Upon arrival, embark on a guided tour aboard the Arlington Cemetery tour mobile. Visit the John F. Kennedy gravesite, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Arlington House (The Robert E. Lee Memorial).

Have a farewell dinner at a local restaurant and return to the hotel. 

Day Five: 

After breakfast in the hotel, pack your bags, tidy your rooms and check out. Board the coach and begin your travels back home. There will be lunch/dinner (on your own) and comfort stops along the way.
